Jean Allman, PhD

Human Development, Education and Training

Jean Allman is the J.H. Hexter Professor in the Humanities and Professor of African and African American Studies.  She currently directs the Center for the Humanities. Allman’s research and published work engages nineteenth and twentieth century African history, with a focus on gender, colonialism, decolonization, and the racial politics of knowledge production.  She recently served as the President of the African Studies Association.
