Kim Thuy Seelinger, Research Associate Professor of Brown School and Founding Director of the Center for Human Rights, Gender and Migration at the Institute of Public Health co-edited a book entitled The President on Trial: Prosecuting Hissène Habré. The book is the first in-depth treatment of the historic prosecution of the former president of Chad for war crimes and crimes against humanity in a courthouse across the African continent, in Senegal (2015-2016).
This volume is an unconventional collection of chapters from the Senegalese and Chadian experts who operationalized the remarkable trial. It also provides a large selection of first-person accounts, from politicians, judges, lawyers, victims, and leading scholars of international criminal justice and victims’ rights, providing unique insights into the construction and work of the Extraordinary African Chambers.
