Mary Ruppert-Stroescu, an associate professor of fashion design in the Sam Fox School, is working with a fashion designer from Kampala, Uganda, to transform banana waste into clothing fibers and she mentors fashion business women in Rwanda through the International Economic Empowerment of Women’s Peace Through Business Program. She has also traveled to South Africa to lecture and conduct workshops about sustainability and the fashion industry.
